The Future of AI Through a Student’s Perspective

Capital City College teamed up with AI Awareness Day to give students an opportunity to participate in shaping the future of technology and education. Here, first-year Creative Media Production student Laissa C shares her perspective on how artificial intelligence will transform the landscape and the future workforce.

Will AI help or replace future jobs?

I believe AI will mostly enhance future jobs rather than completely replace them. It acts as a powerful accelerator, compressing complex tasks that used to take five steps down into a single click. While roles heavily reliant on repetitive data processing may face replacement, humans will always be essential for strategic decision-making, complex problem-solving, and interpersonal collaboration.

What careers will exist because of AI?

AI isn’t just changing old jobs; it is creating entirely new ones. We will see a rise in AI developers, machine learning trainers, prompt engineers, and AI ethics specialists who audit systems for bias and errors. Furthermore, hybrid roles will emerge, blending AI capabilities with industries like healthcare, education, marketing, and crucially for me, music and media production.

What skills will matter most in an AI-driven world?

In a tech-heavy future, uniquely human skills will be your greatest asset. Creativity, communication, critical thinking, and adaptive problem-solving will matter most. While technical fluency with AI tools is necessary, the real standouts will be those who think independently, challenge assumptions, and collaborate effectively with others.

What jobs can’t AI do?

AI fundamentally struggles with roles that require deep human connection, empathy, and emotional intelligence. Therapists, nurses, teachers, social workers, and business leaders rely on human judgment that code cannot replicate. In the creative arts, performers and storytellers capture a shared human experience—AI can assist our workflows, but it cannot replace our soul.

Conclusion

AI will undoubtedly reshape how we work, bringing a mix of challenges and massive opportunities. The future doesn’t belong to AI alone; it belongs to the people who learn to master AI tools while doubling down on their core human skills.
